Baha Users Support (Kent) began as Baha Support in 1999.

Co-ordinated support for baha users at the William Harvey Hospital, Kent, UK, was set up alongside a monthly dedicated baha clinic by Lyn Kolsteren.

Lyn is a retired nurse (due to health reasons). She had a baha fitted in 1999 and was asked by her surgeon, Mr. James Fairley, if she would consider offering support to his patients. He had begun the process by ensuring there was a room in which current and potential baha users could meet as they waited for their appointments.

Lyn met the Entific representative who offered to liaise with her.

People who recieved support offered donations to cover costs of offering support. A newsletter was set up and sent out monthly, to keep people up to date with baha developments, and funding issues. Ray Chatfield, offered to come on board as Treasurer. And they were joined by some other local baha users, and a committee was set up.

Lyn began to be contacted by baha users from outside Kent, so decided that another form of newsletter would be needed, as the current monthly "Good Vibrations" newsletter was not relevent to them.

So, "Firmly Anchored" was born. This was to be a quarterly magazine, put together by Lyn, and offering information about the baha, and other ways to assist living with hearing loss.

As other people wished to offer support in their areas, a link page was introduced. This page offers space to the volunteers, so they they can tell members what is happening in their local areas. The links page has links from round the UK, as well as overseas. The magazine goes out in hard copy round the UK.

Currently we have a very strong committee, including Ray Chatfield who is still Treasurer, and we have been joined by Sandie Phipps as Secretary. We were registered as a charity in November 2003.

We held our first volunteer workshop in May 2005.

We are growing steadily, and are always pleased to welcome new members. If you are interested in joining, Please email Sandie via the contact page.
