More than 25% improvement in speech understanding in noise with new
Cochlear™ Baha® BP100

brochure photo 1For over thirty years, Cochlear has been leading the research field in implantable bone conduction hearing solutions. Thousands of people worldwide have been helped to better hearing with the Baha system. The outcome of Cochlear’s latest research is a sound processor that delivers more than 25% improvement in speech understanding in noise compared to the previous Baha sound processors[1], [2].

Cochlear™ Baha® BP100, the next generation Baha sound processor, provides a new level in bone conduction technology. It offers a substantial increase in quality of life for people suffering from conductive hearing loss, mixed hearing loss or single-sided sensorineural deafness (SSD).

Direct bone conduction provides high fidelity hearing with remarkable efficiency," says John K. Niparko, MD, recent past president of the American Otological Society. "For candidates, their opportunity to experience listening through the Baha processor is unique. It’s not unusual for them to experience an emotional reaction; they often 'light up' when we put the processor on them. There’s a sense that they have an important connection to the world of sound that was not there previously.”

The new Cochlear Baha BP100 is the first bone conduction sound processor based on a new audiological toolkit dedicated to direct bone conduction. Rather than applying air conduction signal processing and amplification strategies borrowed from hearing aids, the BP100 uses strategies uniquely developed to take advantage of bone conduction hearing, because bone conduction hearing is different than air conduction hearing.

“The outcome of our research is a Baha sound processor that delivers more than 25% improvement in speech understanding in noise compared to previous Baha sound processors,” says Mark Flynn, PhD., Director of Research and Applications for Cochlear Bone Anchored Solutions.

The Cochlear Baha BP100 offers a wide range of features and functions, including:

  • Automatic signal processing that adapts to the user’s sound environment seamlessly. No matter where a person is, the sound processor automatically adjusts to the hearing environment.
  • A durable design- the BP100’s casing is crafted from a high-impact polymer, while the reverse side casing is formed of skin-friendly and durable titanium.
  • GORE-TEX® membranes that provide improved protection against water, moisture and dust.
  • The BP100 comes in a range of attractive hair-tone colours for maximum discretion. Soft black, Piano black (high gloss), Chestnut brown, Champagne blonde, Slate grey, and Glacier white (high gloss).

The Cochlear Baha BP100 also offers a wide range of child-friendly features and functions, including:

  • LED lights give parents and caregivers confirmation of the processor’s settings and status.
  • A keylock stops children from accidentally changing the settings by locking the volume, on/off and programme change buttons.
  • A tamperproof door keeps the battery from being accidentally removed or dislodged.
  • A Europin Connector allows easy integration with FM solutions from major suppliers.

The Cochlear Baha BP100 is CE marked and will soon be available in many countries worldwide.
